Pit Bull Documentary Part 1 – How my views were shaped

I’ve started working on a rather lengthy post regarding my thoughts on Pit Bulls and Pit Bull ownership, but I thought it might be useful to give some background on how my views were shaped.

Early in my research I came across a rather fabulous documentary that gives a very honest view on what the Pit Breed is all about. It is honest and highly educational. It did a great deal to shape my current views on the breed and thought it worth sharing.

I will be posting it in 6 parts over the next six-days. If you don’t feel like waiting you can find it on youtube.

There Once was a Girl. She had a Dog.

Hi, My name is Kate. I like dogs. I have four of them. (I like cats too, but I only have one of those!) Probably three too many but, as much as they sometimes drive me insane, I can’t talk myself into giving any one of them up!

Our oldest is a Border Collie named Oreo. He’s a bit neurotic; He hates men (except my husband and son) and must have a tennis ball in his mouth at all times. He lets us know when we have not been giving him enough attention by chewing nearly all of the hair out of his rear. He loves a good game of frisbee and playing fetch in the pool.

Our second oldest is a Husky-mix named Layla. She’s about two. She was a stray that we met a the home of a dear friend. Homeless as she was, I just had to have her. Of course, we found-out at her first vet visit she had heartworm disease. Fortunately, it was in the very beginning stage. She was treated (not cheap!) and is now doing fine. Did I mentioned that she was also pregnant when we got her?

Busy, Busy

It’s been quite some time since I updated here. A lot has gone-on in the last few months!

Pepper is still the cutest damn dog ever! 🙂 I’m afraid we’ve been slacking a great deal on our training though. I find myself more and more just accepting some of her misdeeds. >_> <_<

She is a master counter-surfer. *sigh* I’m struggling now with finding a way to curb the behavior without actually rewarding it. It seems that the only thing she thinks is higher value than whatever is on the counter is play.

Unfortunately, within the last month or so, she has also developed dog aggression. 😦 She still gets along fine with her housemates, but not so much with strange dogs. So far, however, she is still behaves on lead and has not initiated anything. It seems it will be a “manageable” thing, but it does put a kink in some of my plans for her future training.

I have found a job! For the last month and a half I have been working as a Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist. I love it! But it’s keeping me very occupied and is the reason I’ve not updated a lot recently. I am hoping to get back to this soon.

Until then. . . 🙂
