Dog whisperer adds voice to fight to save death-row and I have a beef with it

Like a number of other Pit Bull owners, I have been following the case of Lennox the dog quite closely. Items that involve BSL can have a deep impact on all owners regardless of where in the world they are occurring, since it seems that such things are generally based on public opinion rather than anything even remotely related to facts. So, I read every article I come across related to Pits.
I like Cesar Milan. I like Pit Bulls. I know enough of both to know why Milan would support the cause of Lennox, but I have a beef. . .
I am fortunate to live in a state that just eliminated Breed Specific Legislation. Now, in Ohio, ALL dogs stand on equal ground; In the eyes of the law, a Chihuahua has the same potential to be dangerous or vicious as a Pitbull or Rottweiler.
However, that was not the case when I first acquired my girl. When she spent her first night on our front-porch, it was still required by law that I maintain liability insurance, have a very specific enclosure and keep her on a leash at all times. I accepted that, if I was to keep her, I would need to fulfill all of these and I spent several days just prior to the passing of non-BSL researching insurance companies. I did not want my dog to end-up in a pound and be put-down because of something I failed to do for her!
And that is my beef! Breed specific legislation sucks! Banning a breed sucks! People should work hard to change these situations when they can, but acquiring an animal when you know there is an outright ban on it is not the way to go about it! You are doing that animal NO favors and poor Lennox is the perfect example of this!
I understand why Cesar is supporting this cause. I get it! But what I would like to see more of is people in positions like Cesar’s standing-up and talking more about what being a truly responsible pet-owner and animal activist really means.
